Can ladders be repaired?
Yes.
Manufacturers prepackage parts that can safely be replaced by the end user.
Use only parts intended for the ladder being repaired. Parts not deemed safe to install by end users are supplied only to authorized dealers for shop installation by their technicians.
All ladders are the same, right?
No.
It is important to note that even ladders of the same grade or type can vary greatly in quality.
What does ladder grade mean?
Grade, type, class, etc. are used interchangeably. Simply put it is the maximum load the ladder is engineered to safely carry.
Who grades ladders?
Several organizations worldwide have engineer standards. A few of these organizations are (alphabetically):

ANSI (American National Standards Institute)
CEN (European Union)
CSA (Canadian Standards Association)
OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration)

What are those things that click when an extension ladder goes up and down?
Rung locks.
Is the colour of a ladder and components indicative of the capacity?
Manufacturers each have their own reason(s) to choose certain colours. Colour is not related to capacity.
How do I prevent damaging the eavestrough with a ladder?
Use a stabalizer/standoff.
